She was born in 1921, in San José, Costa Rica. She studied in the School of Bellas Artes that later became the Facultad de Artes de la Universidad de Costa Rica. There , she studied with the teachers Tomás Povedano, Teodorico Quirós and the Fausto Pacheco, among others. During her studies, she was a classmate of the watercolorist Daisy Gómez.

Her watercolors present a great influence from the three great teachers of the national painting. Her favorite subjects are the typical houses of marinates of century XIX in the countryside of Costa Rica.

She taught painting in the School Buenaventura Corrales for several years, soon she got married with Antonio Sauma and procreated four children, now she dedicates great part of his time to the care of his grandsons and has continued painted watercolor and oil during all these years.
